City Tour Southern Area
Buenos Aires
Daily (AM/PM) - Duration: 4hrs
Today we will drive along the widest avenue in the world, 9th of July Ave. here we will see the Obelisk, symbol of Buenos Aires, now we continue to visit the foundational center of BA, Plaza de Mayo square. Stand next to the pyramid to learn about the history of the “desaparecidos” (missing people), you will be able to notice different architectural styles around this square, with the Cabildo, the Metropolitan Cathedral and Casa Rosada (Pink House) and then look at Evita’s balcony, close your eyes and feel the emotion of her last speech when she asked Argentina not to cry for her…
Further south is San Telmo, the most ancient and traditional district in BA. San Telmo keeps its architectural heritage, its cobblestone streets, and low buildings conveying the image of a place frozen in time, don’t leave this area without visiting one of its historic cafés, have a coffee at Dorrego bar at the heart of this neighborhood. On Sundays Plaza Dorrego opposite to the café becomes the setting of the most important outdoor antiques’ market in the city.
Now continue to La Boca, the most picturesque area in town, with tin houses painted in different colors, a lively area inhabited by immigrants, bohemians, artists, and don’t be surprised when you see couples doing tango along its main street “Caminito”.
Finally, you will be impressed by the contrast of this colorful area and your next stop, Puerto Madero, with its recycled docks and home to one of the best gastronomic areas in town. This part of town is the result of the greatest urbanization project of the history of the city. The buildings preserve their original external structure, while the inside was turned into modern offices, movie theatres, universities and elegant shops. The icon of this area is “El Puente de la Mujer” (Woman’s Bridge) a pedestrian bridge crossing the water canal. When the author of this artistic piece of art was asked about its significance, he explained, “the mast represents the man, and the curved silhouette of the bridge represents the woman”, just stand there and feel what Santiago Calatrava tried to convey.
Then make the return back to your hotel.
